TENANTS UNDER THE HAMMER
Tuesday 12th October 2010
Helping tenants on Incapacity Benefit, ESA, Income Support and JSA resist cuts in their benefits
10am - 4.15pm
At: VENUE IN CENTRAL LONDON
Tenants are facing attempts to cut their benefit or force them off benefit altogether. For many vulnerable people this is highly inappropriate. Lone parents with primary school age children are to be transferred to JSA from Income Support in the next 15 months. From October 2010 those on long term sickness benefits such as Incapacity benefit or Income Support will be put through a confusing process of re-testing of their fitness for work. Many will be transferred to JSA where they can be penalised if they do not actively seek work and they will receive less money. Others will be placed on ESA where most will have to take part in work related activity to get the full amount of their benefit. This one day course will help you advise your tenants how best to deal with the changes ahead.
This course will consider:
* which lone parents do not have to transfer and look for work?
* what restrictions can they make on job-seeking?
* which long term sickness claimants will be transferred to JSA?
* who will be placed in Work Activity Group or Support Group?
* who will pass the new limited capability to work test?
* how will conversion process work ?
* how to appeal
